EDCI-528 Extra Credit Webinar w/George Hanshaw

P3: People Performance Partnership About the Speaker: Dr. George Hanshaw Dr. Hanshaw is a performance psychology professional who has a doctorate in sport and performance psychology. He has worked with Lockheed Martin Aeronautics for more than 20 years. Dr. Hanshaw has transformed the "training" department during his time in Learning and Development. The department has moved from an organization that was being told what to do and deliver to an organization that is seen a partner in solving complex performance issues. My Take-Aways: I found Dr. Hanshaw's webinar very interesting in a lot of ways, in part because the Lockheed Martin projects he worked on were just plain cool! The content was also relevant to my course and career work. I really liked Dr. Hanshaw's overarching theme that it's all about creating partnerships to reach performance goals. It's so true! I also found his schema to be very useful: Think like a kid Ask questions Actively wonder "Wh

EDCI-528 Personal Inventory

How do you define HPT?  How does your current definition differ from what you wrote in week 1? Human Performance Technology (HPT) is  is the study of improving performance at an organizational level in order to develop and support a workforce that is aligned with the organization's vision and goals. This definition differs slightly from week 1 in that it has expanded somewhat. I believe I have a deeper understanding of what HPT really is now. Identify the key things you gained from this course.  There is no right or wrong answer here – what things mattered most to you, and why? I have several key takeaways from this course. First, data analysis doesn't have to be scary and confusing. The course made it much easier to understand how to calculate ROI/ROE (and what those terms meant). Second, I feel that I have a more practical understanding of how to work through and manage the process of identifying performance issues and creating an intervention plan to address those gaps. An

EDCI-528 Kim Barnes Presentation

Presentation Summary Kim Barnes holds a master's degree in human development and began her career as a special education teacher. Now she is the CEO of Barnes & Conti Associates, Inc of Berkeley, and independent leadership development firm.  She has more than 35 years of experience in consulting roles with a variety of organizations in multiple industries. Ms. Barnes has also written a number of non-fiction books, as well as a fictional corporate mystery. Ms. Barnes presented some compelling information about exercising influence, or as she said, "moving your ideas into action through others". She elaborated on a variety of topics related to influence including the elements of influence, Neuroscience, Influence Tactics, etc.  I found the information related to Neuroscience very interesting and tied in well with her discussion about relationships. It had never occurred to me to consider science in the factors that may influence HPT, but it makes perfect sense. Using a

EDCI-528 Goals & Expectations

What do you think Human Performance Technology entails? I think Human Performance Technology is the study of improving performance at an organizational level. Truthfully, I had very little knowledge of this topic so I expect that my definition of Human Performance will be fleshed out as I progress through the course.  What skills and knowledge do you already have that you feel relate to the content of this course?  I feel like I have very little knowledge of this topic therefore it's hard for me to say what skills I may have that relate to human performance. However, I was a teacher for fifteen years so I feel like I likely have some data analysis skills that may be useful in this area.  What do you hope to gain from this course?  I am hoping to gain an understanding of what Human Performance is and how I can apply that knowledge to my position as an Instructional Designer.  What do you expect to contribute to this course? I expect that I may have some valuable insight

EDCI-528 All About Me

Image
Hi! My name is Rebecca Blair, but everyone calls me "Becky". I enjoy spending time with my husband, Tony (not the former Prime Minister), and my four children. We have two girls and two boys ranging in age from seventeen to almost 5. I am also a voracious reader, lover of the great outdoors, occasional artist, and fan of anything chocolate!  For ten years, I was an elementary teacher in North Carolina. During my teaching career, I’ve always had a passion for integrating technology into the curriculum. As a result, I was able to serve on the county DODEA technology team for several years, giving me the opportunity to facilitate professional development for technology integration for many of my peers. For the last six years, I've also contributed to Teachers Pay Teachers. One of the things I love most about the education realm is creating engaging resources that include innovative new tools or techniques! Last December, my family of six relocated to Indiana. Shortly t
